Beiträge des internationalen Symposions am 30. und 31. Oktober 2008 im Germanischen Nationalmuseum (Wissenschaftliche Beibände zum Anzeiger des GNM 29 [recte 30]).
The Nuremberg tapestry of courtly love, one of the most important secular tapestries of the Middle Ages, was reintegrated into the collection of the GNM in 2008 after decades of storage and several years of restoration. The contributions of the conference held for this occasion at the GNM are published in this volume. In the sections "the tapestry and its perception", "sources, motifs, models" and "client, occasions, function", current questions raised by this exceptional work of art are examined. From the fields of art and cultural history, German studies and restoration, 14 authors report on the results of their research. As an introduction, 18 color plates present the tapestry for the first time in its present-day color effect in full view and detailed photographs. Summaries in German and English and an extensive bibliography conclude the volume.
